The research lines of this group are focused on the mechanization of greenhouse crops, on the one hand. Secondly, the generation, management and exploitation of digital elevation models. We also find the use of remote sensing, photointerpretation and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for the analysis and evaluation of productive resources.
Finally, the fourth line deals with modeling and graphic animation in design. As far as services are concerned, the evaluation of machinery for the application of phytosanitary products is at the top of the list. This is followed by the generation and updating of cartographic and GIS data, ending with the temporal analysis of images.
Human Resources
Francisco Agüera Vega
D. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Cordoba (1995), Full Professor in the Engineering Department of the University of Almeria and Head of the Research Group "Agricultural Production Technologies in Semi-Arid Areas" (1998).
His lines of research have focused on the use of multispectral images captured from aerial platforms and their photogrammetric application for obtaining 3D models of the terrain and its exploitation, study of land use and occupation, as well as for monitoring crops throughout their cycle, all of which were strengthened during his stay at the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial College London, during 2007.
Since 2008 these lines have focused on the use of remotely piloted aerial platforms (drones or UAVs) on which different types of sensors are mounted, depending on the objective pursued in each flight. These lines have been funded by several research projects for which he has been responsible and as a result, among others, have given rise to the publication of several doctoral theses and numerous articles in international journals. In order to ensure that the knowledge generated in research is transferred to society, in 2013 he was co-founder of the technology-based company, Spin-off "Drones-ingeniería, S.L". In 2013 he was the winner of the Third Prize in the Contest of ideas and projects based on agri-food of the Campus of International Excellence Agri-food ceiA3 and the first prize in the 13th Edition of Entrepreneurial Initiatives, awarded by the Social Council of the University of Almeria.
