Since its creation, the "Rural Engineering" Research Group has been focused on solving problems of the agricultural society of Almeria. We are dedicated to create technology to make the Almeria Agricultural Model sustainable; on the other hand, we adapt technologies developed in other areas to make them useful for farmers and for the auxiliary industry of agriculture.
The prestige of the group is endorsed by the achievement in recent years of: 10 Doctoral Theses, 28 Research Projects, 7 Patents and 66 Contracts with Companies. This last section, the University-Company link, we consider it essential to solve the problems of the sector and to research on them, with a marked practical character. Similarly, there are numerous articles (167) published both in national and international journals covered by the International Scientific Information, with a verifiable scientific impact.

Diego Luis Valera Martínez
Diego Luis Valera Martínez is Professor of the Department of Engineering at the University of Almería. He is currently attached to the School of Engineering, where he received the Best Teacher Award in 2012. He studied Agricultural Engineering and Doctorate in Agricultural Engineering at the University of Cordoba, obtaining the Extraordinary Award "José María Bergillos" for the best Final Project. He is the author of more than 60 scientific articles in indexed journals and more than 120 articles in journals of knowledge transfer to professionals in the agri-food sector. He has presented more than 100 communications in national and international congresses, some of them have obtained the prize for the best communication, mentions of excellence and recognition award. He has directed more than a hundred final projects, undergraduate and master's degree projects, as well as 14 doctoral theses, some of which have obtained the Extraordinary Doctoral Award and the Best Doctoral Thesis Award.
