9 months of pure learning for the young members of this innovative action that aims to facilitate the technical and entrepreneurial training of a group of 5 young people in vulnerable situations in order to favor their personal, social and labor development.
Agricultural activity has been a source of wealth and growth for Almeria's society, which has been transformed and modernized along with it. In this project we will apply the innovative character of Almeria's agriculture to the social field in order to improve the living conditions of young people at risk of exclusion through their training.
During these 9 months, the young people have been trained in two clear lines, the first of them acquiring regulated knowledge enrolled in the medium grade training cycle called "The training of young people". "Agroecological Production" at the IES Sol de Portocarrero, combined with an entrepreneurial experimental training program to be developed at the UAL-ANECOOP Experimental Farm. In this space, the young people lead the management and exploitation of an agricultural plot of 500 square meters.
Their knowledge has been such that they have produced approximately 500 kg of tomatoes and 150 kg of Cantaloupe melon.
In addition to the theoretical knowledge acquired by the young people in such a practical field as agriculture, their technical training will be complemented by training in business management, which will provide them with the resources to become entrepreneurs in the field of agriculture when they complete their training.
These young residents of the El Puche neighborhood, aware of the vulnerable situation of many families, especially with the current crisis of the COVID, have donated the entire collection to the Caritas logistics center.
Undoubtedly, it has been a magnificent way to close this first stage, offering the results of everything learned to vulnerable people and families.
In August approximately, training and internships will resume at the UAL-ANECOOP Experimental Farm. In addition, we must add the possibility that the young people choose to finish their training in a country of the European Union within the Erasmus program.
In short, we can say that in this first evaluation the results exceed expectations, since the young people, in addition to having acquired the knowledge they were asked to acquire, show a very high interest in continuing their training, obtaining and living new experiences outside our borders and soon being able to be farmers exploiting their farms, being able to be the first young farmers entrepreneurs in the neighborhood.
From the Experimental Farm UAL-ANECOOP we want to thank the IES Sol de Portocarrero for their professionalism and ease of monitoring and, without forgetting, the Obra Social la Caixa for betting from the beginning and financially endowing the project to develop it.
